In early May 2023, my Mate from Maitland (Terry) and I decided to rediscover some areas of rivers and riverbanks on which native fish were still there. Some may be aware that there is a huge issue with carp (an introduced species) destroying the waters for indigenous fish species.
So off we went to Mungindi, on the Queensland NSW border 150 km west of Goondoowindi. We met some lovely “trainee muster-dog” pups at the local caravan park. Theses 5 pups decided to dig their way out of their enclosure and to promptly chew on my river shoes. Little charmers, they bounced their ay with me to the toilet block every time I went. Glad-to-say, the pups didn’t run away, or get run over, or get eaten during the night.
WHAT DID WE DISCOVER at MUNGINDI
Anyhow, only carp were to be had at the Boomi River.
Oh no, we DON’T want carp
So we moseyed our way onward to Talwood in Queensland, north east of Mungindi.
There we were, gaining local information from the publican, who kindly had donga accommodation for us!

So, I had an epiphany! Let there be light, and there was!
In this moment of great realisation, we were at the crossroads of transition, of breaking ground on land that we’d been near as kids! We’re both in our late 60’s, you now know.
AND WE CAUGHT SOME EDIBLE (pan-size) Yellow Belly. A prime indigenous inland rivers fish! Beautiful eating, and we returned those fish that we didn’t eat to the river!
So, what’s it all mean. At present “it’s” evolving, as I love the land, the people, the rivers, exploring Christian faith, seeing the new and the beauty and diversification of God’s Creation. If you like, “God’s Dream Land, some inspired prophetic people have called it the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit.
Come with me, Terry and new friends over time as we explore this great land in Outback Queensland. I believe we’ll find great and wondrous things there.
This is my very first post, so if anyone cares to have seen it you can text me on my Mobile Phone Number 0418726004, and we can start a conversation.
Yours in Christ Jesus
